Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken

Ingredients

  • 3-4 large boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1-2 teaspoons sriracha sauce (or 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes)
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • chopped green onions, cilantro, and crushed red pepper flakes, for garnish (optional)

Steps

  1. Place chicken breasts in a slow cooker.
  2. Whisk together honey, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, garlic, and sriracha (or red pepper flakes) in a bowl.
  3. Pour sauce over chicken, cover, and cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours.
  4. Remove chicken with a slotted spoon and shred with two forks; cover to keep warm.
  5. Pour the sauce from the slow cooker into a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  6. Dissolve corn starch in cold water, then stir into the boiling sauce until thickened.
  7. Pour thickened sauce over shredded chicken and toss to coat.
  8. Serve over rice, garnished with green onions, cilantro, or red pepper flakes if desired.

Notes

Hoisin sauce can typically be found in the Asian foods section of most grocery stores.
