Onion Rings with Ranch Dressing

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, peeled and sliced into rings
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water
  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 cups bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 4 cups vegetable oil, for frying
  • 6 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Chopped fresh herbs (chives, parsley, dill)

Steps

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the cold sparkling water and mix until a smooth batter forms.
  3. Place the bread crumbs in a separate shallow dish.
  4. Dip each onion ring into the batter, letting excess drip off, then coat with bread crumbs.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
  7. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  8. For the ranch dressing, mix together mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  9. Stir in the chopped fresh herbs.
  10. Serve the onion rings hot with the ranch dressing on the side.
