Vietnamese Coffee (Cà Phê Sữa Đá)

🇻🇳 Vietnam

Servings: 1 Prep: 5 minutes Cook: 5 minutes Total: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 tsp Vietnamese coffee (Cafe Du Monde or Trung Nguyen)
  • 2 tsp condensed milk
  • 1 cup boiling water

Steps

  1. Boil water.
  2. Preheat the phin filter and cup by pouring a bit of boiling water through them.
  3. Remove the metal press insert and add the coffee grounds to the filter.
  4. Place the press insert back on top, twisting gently until snug.
  5. Pour a small amount of water into the filter to wet the grounds and let them expand.
  6. Fill the filter with the remaining water and let it drip, about 3-5 minutes; adjust the press tightness if it drips too fast or too slow.
  7. Add condensed milk to the cup (about 1-3 tsp depending on preferred sweetness), either before or after brewing.
  8. For iced coffee, let the brewed coffee cool slightly, then pour over a glass filled with ice.

Notes

Adjust condensed milk to taste; adding it before brewing slightly changes the flavor since it's cooked by the hot water.
