Lángos with Sour Cream and Cheese

Ingredients

  • 200 ml milk
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 30 g fresh yeast
  • 500 g flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 200 ml water
  • Oil, for frying
  • Salt, for topping
  • Sour cream, for topping
  • Cheese, grated, for topping
  • Garlic, optional, for topping

Steps

  1. Warm the milk slightly. In a glass, mix the sugar with the crumbled yeast, pour in half of the warm milk, cover, and let it foam up.
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the oil, the foamed yeast mixture, the remaining milk, and a little warm water.
  3. Mix, gradually adding the water, until a medium-soft dough forms. Knead the dough, place it in a bowl, and let it rise for about 1 hour.
  4. Oil a tray. With oiled hands, tear off small portions of dough and place them spaced apart on the tray. Cover with a kitchen towel and let rise again for about 30 minutes, until puffy.
  5. Heat plenty of oil in a pan. Stretch and shape each piece of dough with oiled hands, then fry in the hot oil for about 1 minute per side until golden brown.
  6. Drain the fried dough and place on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  7. Serve sprinkled with salt, spread with sour cream, and topped with grated cheese. Optionally, rub with garlic before serving.
