Homemade Iced Tea
πΊπΈ United States · Southern US
Ingredients
- 4 black tea bags (or about 4 tsp loose leaf tea)
- 2 cups boiling water
- 6 cups cold water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 lemon, sliced
- Fresh mint sprigs
Steps
- Make simple syrup: combine sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Heat, stirring, until sugar fully dissolves, about 2-5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Pour boiling water over tea bags in a heatproof pitcher or bowl. Steep for 4 minutes, then remove the bags without squeezing them.
- Add cold water to the hot brewed tea and stir. Refrigerate until completely chilled.
- Stir in simple syrup to taste.
- Serve chilled over ice, garnished with sliced lemon and fresh mint.
Notes
Simple syrup can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Avoid squeezing tea bags, as this releases bitter tannins.
