Servings: 8 Prep: 5 minutes Cook: 5 minutes Total: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 black tea bags (or about 4 tsp loose leaf tea)
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 6 cups cold water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • Fresh mint sprigs

Steps

  1. Make simple syrup: combine sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Heat, stirring, until sugar fully dissolves, about 2-5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Pour boiling water over tea bags in a heatproof pitcher or bowl. Steep for 4 minutes, then remove the bags without squeezing them.
  3. Add cold water to the hot brewed tea and stir. Refrigerate until completely chilled.
  4. Stir in simple syrup to taste.
  5. Serve chilled over ice, garnished with sliced lemon and fresh mint.

Notes

Simple syrup can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Avoid squeezing tea bags, as this releases bitter tannins.
