Homemade Lemonade

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 8 cups filtered water, divided (1 cup cold, 7 cups to serve)
- 1 1/2 cups lemon juice (about 8 medium or 6 large lemons)
Steps
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup water and 1 1/2 cups sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring, until it just begins to simmer and sugar dissolves.
- Remove syrup from heat and let cool to room temperature. Transfer to a jar, cover, and refrigerate until ready to use.
- Juice lemons to yield 1 1/2 cups lemon juice.
- In a pitcher, combine 7 cups cold water, the lemon juice, and the chilled sugar syrup. Stir to combine, adjusting to taste if desired.
- Serve over ice.
Notes
Lemon juice and syrup can be refrigerated separately for up to 2 weeks before mixing.
