Homemade Chili

Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 (15 oz) can kidney beans, drained
- 1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained
- 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes, with juices
- 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
- 1 cup water
- 1 Tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/4 tsp cayenne powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper, freshly cracked
Steps
- Cook diced onion and minced garlic in olive oil in a large pot over medium heat until soft and translucent.
- Add ground beef and sauté until fully browned.
- Add drained kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, water, and all seasoning ingredients. Stir until combined.
- Cover and simmer over low heat for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, then serve hot with desired toppings.
Notes
Flavor improves the longer it simmers.
