Galbi (Korean BBQ Beef Short Ribs)

Ingredients
- 3-4 pounds beef short ribs, English cut
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/4 cup rice wine or mirin
- 1/4 cup grated Korean pear
- 1/4 cup grated onion
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Steps
- Rinse the short ribs and drain. Trim excess fat, then butterfly the ribs so the meat is 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
- Mix all marinade ingredients together.
- Marinate the meat for at least 6 hours, or overnight for best results; thicker cuts need longer marinating.
- Preheat a charcoal or gas grill to medium-high to high heat.
- Grill the ribs, turning once, about 2-3 minutes per side, until nicely charred.
