Jamaican Sorrel Drink

Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh sorrel
- 5 oz fresh ginger, sliced or grated
- 10 pimento berries (allspice)
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 cup white rum
- 1 cup red label wine
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 6 cups water
Steps
- Wash the sorrel thoroughly and remove any unwanted particles.
- In a pot, combine the ginger, cinnamon stick, pimento berries, and water.
- Bring to a boil over high heat and boil for 3 minutes.
- Add the sorrel to the pot and boil for another 5 to 10 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let steep overnight, or at least 12 hours.
- Strain the mixture well.
- Sweeten to taste with sugar.
- Stir in the rum and wine, then serve over ice.
Notes
For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum and wine. Dried sorrel can be substituted for fresh.
