Fried Green Plantains

Ingredients

  • 3 green plantains
  • 1/2 cup cooking oil
  • 1/8 tsp salt (optional)

Steps

  1. Peel the green plantains and cut into 2-inch pieces.
  2. Heat the cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  3. Add the plantain pieces and fry on all sides for 3-5 minutes total.
  4. Remove from oil and flatten each piece using parchment paper and your hands, a tostones press, or a glass cup.
  5. Reheat the oil and fry the flattened plantains again for about 3 minutes, until golden and crisp.

Notes

The length of the second fry depends on how thin the plantains are pressed.
