How to Dye Eggs with Onion Skins

Ingredients
- 10 eggs
- skins from 10 large onions
- 2.5 liters water
- 200 ml red wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons kosher salt
- olive oil
- paper towels
Steps
- Add the onion skins to a medium-sized pot.
- Pour in the water and vinegar, then add the salt. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium, and simmer for about 40 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly for 10-15 minutes.
- Wash the eggs and dry them with a kitchen towel.
- Using a tablespoon, carefully lower the eggs one by one into the dye.
- Return the pot to the heat and simmer over medium heat for about 30 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the eggs rest in the pot for at least 30 minutes.
- Transfer the eggs to a plate and let them dry completely without rubbing.
- Once dry, put some olive oil on a paper towel and rub each egg gently until shiny.
