🇺🇸 United States · Minnesota
Ingredients
- 1½ lbs ground beef (80/20 or 85/15)
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper, freshly cracked
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 6 slices American cheese, quartered
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
- 4 hamburger buns
- 12 pickle slices
Steps
- Combine ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
- Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions (about 3 oz each) and form into balls.
- Flatten each ball between parchment paper or plastic wrap using the bottom of a heavy skillet to form 8 thin patties.
- Arrange 4 quartered cheese slices in a fan shape on top of one patty, leaving space around the edges. Top with a second patty and pinch edges together to seal in the cheese.
- Heat oil in a medium iron skillet over medium heat until shimmering. Add patties and cook without moving for 3 minutes.
- Flip the patties and cook for another 3 minutes on the other side.
- Transfer burgers to a plate and let rest for 5 minutes. Toast the buns in the same skillet while burgers rest.
- Serve the burgers on toasted buns with pickle slices and desired toppings.
Notes
Be careful when biting into these burgers as the melted cheese center can be very hot.
