Homemade Spanish Sangria

🇪🇸 Spain

Ingredients

  • 1 (750ml) bottle red Spanish wine
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange
  • 1 peach
  • 1 apple
  • 1/4 cup Spanish brandy
  • 1 cup orange juice, not from concentrate
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Steps

  1. Thinly slice the orange and lemon. Add half of each to a pitcher, reserving the rest.
  2. Cut the peach and apple into small cubes. Add all the peach cubes and half the apple cubes to the pitcher, reserving the other half of the apple.
  3. Add the brandy, orange juice, and sugar to the pitcher.
  4. Using a wooden spoon, press down on the fruit to release its juices, then stir everything together.
  5. Pour in the red wine and add the cinnamon stick. Mix well.
  6. Refrigerate the pitcher for at least 2 hours to let the flavors develop.
  7. Drizzle a little lemon juice over the reserved apple slices to prevent browning, then refrigerate the reserved fruit.
  8. To serve, stir the sangria, then fill glasses with ice and some reserved apple cubes.
  9. Pour the sangria into the glasses and garnish each with a slice of orange and lemon.

Notes

A young Rioja wine is recommended for an authentic flavor.
