Cheese Puto

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 6 ounces evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • American processed cheese, sliced

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder; mix well.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating with an electric mixer after each addition.
  3. Add milk and beat until smooth.
  4. Add water and continue beating until the batter is thin and smooth.
  5. Add butter and vanilla extract; stir until well blended.
  6. Add shredded cheese and stir until combined.
  7. Fill molds with batter up to 3/4 full and arrange in a single layer on a steamer rack.
  8. Steam for 8 to 10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Turn off heat, top each puto with a slice of cheese, and cover for 1 minute to melt the cheese.
  10. Let cool slightly before removing from molds.
