Spaghetti and Meatballs

Ingredients

  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 slices white bread
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ pound ground pork
  • ½ cup onion, finely minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons basil, chopped
  • â…“ cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon white pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon pepper flakes
  • 1 egg
  • Olive oil, for cooking
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
  • 2 (14-ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon curry powder (optional)
  • 1-2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Steps

  1. Soak the white bread in milk for a few minutes until softened, then mash into a paste.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the bread mixture, ground beef, ground pork, minced onion, garlic, parsley, basil, parmesan cheese, salt, white pepper, black pepper, pepper flakes, and egg.
  3. Mix gently until just combined, then shape into meatballs.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet and brown the meatballs on all sides. Set aside.
  5. Cook the spaghetti in salted boiling water according to package directions; drain.
  6. In a large pot, heat olive oil and sauté the sliced onion until soft.
  7. Add minced garlic and Italian seasoning; cook until fragrant.
  8. Stir in the tomato sauce, white pepper, smoked paprika, and curry powder if using.
  9. Add beef broth to thin the sauce to desired consistency and bring to a simmer.
  10. Return the browned meatballs to the sauce and simmer until cooked through, about 15-20 minutes.
  11. Toss the cooked spaghetti with the sauce and meatballs.
  12. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
