Homemade Nutella

🇮🇹 Italy · Piedmont

Servings: 24 Prep: 10 minutes Cook: 12 minutes Total: 22 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces hazelnuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/3-1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 6 ounces semisweet chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Spread hazelnuts on a baking tray and bake 10-12 minutes until lightly browned, tossing once halfway through. Let cool 10 minutes.
  3. Rub hazelnuts in a towel to loosen and remove skins (some skin may remain).
  4. Melt chocolate in microwave in 20-second increments, stirring between each, until smooth.
  5. Process hazelnuts in a food processor for 2-3 minutes until a smooth, glossy paste forms.
  6. Add vanilla, salt, cocoa powder, melted chocolate, and powdered sugar (1/3 cup for less sweet, 1/2 cup for sweeter) to the processor.
  7. Run the processor 1 1/2-2 minutes, slowly drizzling in the oil through the feed opening. Mixture will be runny but thickens as it cools.
  8. Transfer to a jar or resealable container. Store at room temperature for up to 1 month.
